God has spoken the following to me, and I pass it on to you, "The punishment of America has been decreed. It cannot be turned back. Privation and hunger are determined. America the proud will be debased. And with the church which calls itself by My name, I am especially furious. The earthly church which has cast its lot with those who cried out for the crucifixion of My Son will be burned as stubble. This is only the first punishment. Repent not, and the trumpets of Revelation will sound." (December 29, 2006)

Meditation

Like prayer, meditation is a form of communication with God, but it is an act of listening rather than speaking. And meditation can take more than one form. Basically, there is light meditation and there is deep meditation. In light meditation you listen for the still, small voice of God. In deep meditation you seek profound mystical encounters - but as I explain below, deep medititation can lead you where you do not want to go.

I have found from my own experience that meditation is most powerful when it follows prayer. First, speak to God your heart’s desire. Tell Him what you want from meditation. Do you want to feel His presence? Do you want an answer to a question? Do you want to be healed of a deep psychological wound? Meditative experiences in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ are like a salve which can heal the soul. If that is what you want, tell God about it.

I wish to stress that only when I have had a heartfelt desire, and a strong need for some clearly defined goal, has meditation been powerful and life changing. Unfocused meditation, with no goal in mind, has never been productive for me. It only puts me to sleep. Therefore, define in clear terms what you want from meditation. And then take it to God in prayer.

A good method of focusing your thoughts and preparing your mind, is journaling. Record the issues you are dealing with. Express in writing how these matters are affecting your life and others. And then write your prayer. What is it you want God to tell you? What advice or direction do you need. Afterwards, set aside your journal and make sure you are in a quiet place where you will not be interrupted. Continue to pray, and listen for the voice of God. He may speak to you telepathically. Or, instead, He may use your own thoughts to speak with you. For instance, you may find your thoughts nudged in a particular direction. Or you may find that the light, as it were, suddenly comes on, and you can see with greater clarity than before. Solutions which once eluded you, are now clearly visible.

Sometimes the best time and place for light meditation is to be found during a church service, or while praying with another Christian. Shared meditation is often more powerful than solitary meditation.

I want to make it clear, though, that sometimes God does not give you the answer you want. You may desperately desire for God to tell you which path to take. But, instead, you may be met with silence. He may simply be saying, "Trust Me to get you where you need to be." In the meantime, He may let you struggle in order to learn and grow as He subtly opens doors and closes doors to get you on the right path.

Notes on Deep Meditation: There are other forms of meditation designed to induce trances and cause visions. I have experienced these in years past during my spiritual journey from faith to doubt, through heresy to neo-orthodoxy and back to orthodoxy again. In the process, I encountered two distinct out-of-body experiences and a one-time remote viewing (which I later verified as accurate). And I still have the ability to put myself into deep meditation. However, many people get into deep meditation only to come under the influence of demons.

During my wandering years, as a backsliding Christian, I sometimes felt evil lurking nearby as I meditated. By the grace of God, this evil was powerless to enter inside of me, but I could sometimes feel it in the same room. Therefore, I would not recommend deep forms of meditation for most people. I would especially warn non-Christians to stay away from such practices. The non-Christian does not have the shield of the Holy Spirit and could fall into demon possession. A non-Christian could be destroyed spiritually as he yields the control of his spiritual being to the forces of darkness.

For those strongly grounded in Christ, deep meditation can be valuable as it was for the Apostle Paul. In his speech to the Jerusalem mob, Paul said:

"And it came to pass, that, when I was come again to Jerusalem, even while I prayed in the temple, I was in a trance; And saw him [Lord Jesus} saying unto me, Make haste, and get thee quickly out of Jerusalem: for they will not receive thy testimony concerning me." (Acts 22:17-18)

If you are not strongly grounded in Jesus Christ, however, you should leave deep meditation to others.

I have been asked what are the techniques for meditation. In response, there are no techniques. It is the pagan who chants mantras, beats himself, stands on his head, etc.

There is only one Biblical approach to meditation and it is stated in Psa 46:10, "Be still, and know that I [am] God:"

Luke 22:36 Then said He [the Lord Jesus] unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.

The Lord so commanded. Therefore, do not argue. Every Christian man, and even woman, should own a gun and know how to use it. Gun control laws do not matter. In Christ's day, the Romans made it illegal for subject peoples to own swords. But, yet, Christ commanded His followers to be prepared for their own self-defense. And it is He Who must be obeyed, not man.
